AVOID High Fructose Corn Syrup!

So about 6 years ago, my life was changed forever… for the better! I learned how to read food labels and discovered high fructose corn syrup in much of the food that we were consuming regularly.

I know you’re like, sounds interesting, but what the heck is it?

Technical definition:

Artificial sugar made from corn syrup

My definition:

Another thing to worry about (insert eye-roll emoji)

Common foods containing HFCS:

Jams/jellies

Condiments like ketchup and barbecue sauce

Snacks

Cereal

Soda

Dangers of overconsumption of HFCS:

  1. Increases the risk of fatty liver disease

  2. Contributes to insulin resistance

  3. Increases the risk obesity and weight gain

  4. Contains no essential nutrients = empty calories

Sometimes I get sad just thinking about all of the things that we have to protect our families from, but then I'm comforted by how accessible information is nowadays and all of the healthier options available.

So here are 3 ways to avoid HFCS:

  1. Read food labels.

  2. Buy organic when possible.

  3. Eat real, whole food!

Special message to you! YOU CAN DO THIS! YOU CAN OVERCOME CHRONIC ILLNESSES. YOU CAN FEED YOUR FAMILIES WELL. YOU CAN LIVE A LONG, HEALTHY LIFE!
